AAROGYASETU APP: TRACKING COVID-19 MADE EASIER
The Government has launched the ‘AarogyaSetu’ app which is available to the people now. The app is developed considering the needs and demands of the Indian people.
Keeping in mind the worsening situations of COVID-19, the Government has taken an initiative to help the people mitigate the risks of infection from the virus.

What is the ‘AarogyaSetu’ app?
‘AarogyaSetu’ is an official app launched by the Government of India which aims to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The app is available for Android, iOS iPhone, PC, and Windows users. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) launched the app which enables the users to determine whether they are at the risk of catching Coronavirus or not.

How to use the AarogyaSetu app?
Step 1: Download the app from the respective app stores of the Android and iOS devices
Step 2: After you install and open the app, choose your desired language from the list of 11 available languages
Step 3: Go through all the information pages on the app
Step 4: Click on ‘Register Now’
Step 5: Allow the app permission to work. It requires Bluetooth access, mobile number and GPS connection of the user. The data is used to predict and trace the risks of you getting affected or contacting with a suspected/ affected person
Step 6: The app requires you to register with your mobile number and verify with an OTP. Fill other optional information if you want like name, profession, age, travel history etc. You can also enrol yourself as a volunteer
Step 7: The app dictates the risk levels in Green and Yellow colours. Green colour indicates that you are safe. Stay at home and follow the guidelines ruled out
Step 8: Yellow colour indicates that you are at high-risk levels. It is suggested to contact helpline numbers and follow the prescribed guidelines
Step 9: Use the ‘Self-Assessment Test’ feature and determine your symptoms or risk levels with a questionnaire being asked. Also, you can access the help centre button in the app
How has the public reacted to the AarogyaSetu app?
The initiative of the Government to launch the app has been appreciated by people across the country.
At the time of writing, over 10 million people have installed the app within 4 days of its launch. The number is growing with each day passing.
Moreover, the app has become the top free in India on the downloading platforms. Under the Health and Fitness and Free apps section, the app is on the top spot.
Is it necessary to download the AarogyaSetu app?
With the launch of the app, the Government of India and various other public and private bodies have urged the masses to download to the app.
However, it is not mandatory for the general people to download the app. It is recommended to have it as it aims to combat the pandemic situation.
Where it not compulsory for the general public to download it, it has been made compulsory for the police and military officers, doctors, nurses and all other involved in such departments.
This is done to ensure that they obtain information about any potential risks and take measures to combat the situations.
The government has taken several initiatives to promote the app and make the people download the app. The schools have been aimed to promote the app.
The CBSE board has urged schools and institutions to ask their students, teachers, parents, other staff and more to get the app for them.
Government Portal to Fight Coronavirus: #IndiaFightsCorona
The Government of India has recently launched a portal #IndiaFightsCorona to help the people amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The portal furnishes complete information about the current figures of the coronavirus cases in the country.
Also, it states the symptoms and ways of spreading the virus. The portal puts forth the guidelines on the prevention of the virus as well.
The Government portal has a myth buster section to clear the prevailing myths about COVD-19.
It provides the latest updates and notifications and has rolled out various activities such as volunteering, innovative solution challenge and ideas and suggestions to fight the pandemic.
You can also access the helpline numbers state/ district wise details, MyGov Corona Helpdesk and the Corona Newsdesk on Telegram through the portal.
What is the Current situation of COVID-19?
As of April 5th, 2020, total COVID-19 cases across the world are more than 12 Lakhs.
Around 67000 people have succumbed to the virus and more than 2.5 Lakh people have recovered. There are 9 Lakh active cases reported till now.
Travels have been banned or restricted by all the countries across the world.
Flights, trains, and other commutations modes have been closed and only essential commodities are available to the people.
The pandemic has hardly hit the global economy and the situations are getting worse.
According to a study, if such conditions prevailed for long, the world might lead to the biggest recession of all time after the 2008 recession.
Millions of people have lost their jobs, businesses are struggling to cope up with the restrictions imposed and the stock market has drastically fallen.
In India, the reported numbers of cases as on 5th April 2020 were 3,588 with a death count of 99. Also, 229 persons have recovered from the disease.
The country is on lockdown till 14th April and better conditions are expected pertaining to the virus pandemic.
