The Industrial Training Institute is a government training institute that is responsible for imparting industry related training to the students.

The institute was established to provide technical knowledge to students who passed their 10th standard or matriculation and are willing to gain technical knowledge instead of pursuing higher studies.

The Industrial Training Institute was constituted under the Union Government, the Directorate General Employment and Training and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

The institute provides training in engineering as well as non-engineering technical fields.

It impacts training in various trades such as mechanical, electrical, computer hardware, carpentry, refrigeration and air conditioning welding, plumbing, and more.

The objective of the institute is to provide technical manpower to the rapidly growing industrial sector.

The courses are specially designed to provide skills in the trade. Upon successful completion of the training, the students have to undergo practical training in their chosen trade in the industry for 1 or 2 years.

The practical training is mandatory to appear for the National Council of Vocational Training Certificate.

What are the eligibility criteria for admission into ITI?

To obtain admission into the Industrial Training Institute, the candidate needs to meet the eligibility criteria which are as follows:-

  • The candidate must hold a pass certificate in 8th, 10th, or matriculation from any recognized board. Certain ITI courses are available after the 10th standard as well.
  • The candidate should have scored a minimum of 35 per cent aggregate marks in their pass certificate
  • The candidate should not be less than 14 years of age and more than 40 years of age at the time of admission

Candidates belonging to special categories can avail the age relaxation benefits as follows:-

  • Ex-Servicemen – Up to 45 years of age
  • War widows – Up to 45 years of age
  • Physically handicapped – Upper limit relaxation of 10 years and 35 years of  age at the time of admission
  • Widows/ separated women – Up to 35 years of age (raining programmed under C.T.S.)

What is ITI admission process?

The candidates can obtain the prospectus and Performa for ITI admissions from the respective state directorates who are responsible for craftsmen training scheme and principal of concerned industrial training institutes and centres.

The selection of the candidates is purely made based on merit. The merit is based on the marks secured by the candidate in the public examination as per the minimum qualification prescribed for the individual trade.

In case of no public examination at the minimum qualification level, admission is based on the marks obtained by the candidate in written examination which is conducted by the state directorate for admission purposes.

What is the duration of ITI courses?

Different ITI courses have different durations. The courses are designed to impart technical education and depend on the level of skill and time required.

The duration of ITI courses can be six months, nine months, one year or two years. This depends on the course you apply for or choose.

What is the fee of ITI courses?

The tuition fees for the ITI courses in India vary from course to course.

The average tuition fees for these courses begin from 5000 per year and can be up to 50,000 per year depending on the institute.

Government colleges have a low tuition fee as compared to the high tuition fees of private colleges.

The average tuition fees for government colleges ships approximately 7000 for a year whereas for private colleges it is approximately 25000 per year.

Apart from the tuition fees, the students are required to pay for their books and examination expenses for each semester.

The exam fees for each semester range from 500 to 1000 Rs.
