What are the parts of the URL?
URL is made up of certain elements or sections. The parts of the URL are as follows:-
The protocol in an URL determines how a web browser communicates with a web server during the process of sending or fetching a web page or document.
HTTP is the most common protocol which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
There are other protocols as well which are POP (Post Office Protocol), SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), FTP (File Transfer Protocol), and more.
The sub-division of the main domain name is referred to as the subdomain.
A Domain name is the unique identification reference of a website on the internet or World Wide Web. In a domain name, the top-level domain is always present. It also has shorthand and a second-level domain.
Port number is mandatory in URLs but is rarely visible in them. It comes following the TLD, separated by a colon when declared in a URL. In case the port is not declared, port 80 is used in http and port 443 is used in https.
A path is a file or directory on the webserver. In certain cases, the file name is not specified.
Usually, a query is found in the URL of dynamic pages. Dynamic pages are the one which is generated from a database or the user-generated content.
A question mark followed by one or more parameters represents the query. Further, the query directly follows the domain name and port number.
Found in every query string of a URL, parameters are the snippets of information.
The parameters follow the question mark and an ampersand (&) character separates them. This is to make it understandable individually and display content on the page.
The internal page reference also referred to as named anchor, is the fragment. It begins with a hash (#) character and appears at the end of an URL followed by an identifier. Moreover, it is a section within a webpage only.

What are the types of URL?
There are prominently 3 types of URLs available which are as follows:-
This type of Universal resource locator has all the elements of a URL in it. It serves as the perfect way to target a specific file, without fail.
Using it on any page, site, email or computer, it always works.
From the Root
These types of URLs are the short-cuts. In this, the HTTP and domain name is eliminated.
“From the Root URLs” work on any pages that are residing on the same domain.
There is a slash (/) at the beginning of the URL which replaces the “root” domain name.
These URLs offer the greatest flexibility concerning security and ease in setting up your page.
Friendly and easy to write, relative URLs are problematic due to their nature of only working for the page that they exist on.
If the same code is used on another page, the chances of relative URLs not working are less.
Are URL and IP Address the same?
Generally, people consider the IP address and URL the same. However, the two terms are not the same instead they are used interchangeably.
URL contains the specific location, protocol, and specific resource while an IP address just specifies the location.
Moreover, IP addresses and URLs share one or many relationships.
There are certain differences between URL and IP address as well which are as follows:-
- An URL needs a DNS server while that is not the case with an IP address
- The URLs are unlimited in nature while IP addresses are limited
